how hot
Austin is hot at the moment, but the USA is getting fairly hot anyway. we are expecting a cold front today, down to 100F..yeah. As we are off to ARM's family day at Volente Beach, which is a water park on Lake Travis. the boys love that and the jet skis are lots of fun. Hopefully I will remember to post some picture so you can see what they are up too.

it finally rained
it rained, finally after hardly any rain for 24 months, it poured down...and the kids loved it. a few roads had to close due to the debris that came across them..but I don't think anyone minded.. The temperatures dropped as well down to the 70's which was also a wonderful break from our summer heat, for about three days we had good rain and our temperatures were about 11f below normal, we did not mind, the 70's are a great temperature. As you can see, the boys played outside in it , we sat on the covered patio and watched..it is always an amazing sight, the rain, the storms..they seem to do them with such vigour here..nothing in half measures.
the garden loved the soaking it got and it meant we did not have to have the sprinklers on, although the rain was not enough to stop the current water restrictions we have in place...restaurants are not allowed to just bring water to the tables( normally they would) they have to wait to be asked by the customer for water. we can only use our sprinklers one a week now, so in little ways you notice the lack of water..plants dieing is a good indication..just so hot.

our weather
I thought I would let you all know that summer is not officially here yet, it starts on June 21st ( fathers day for us, and I believe UK, although strangely mothers day was 2 months apart). our lows are now in the low 70's and our highs are reaching 100 some days, remember that is not in direct sun either....roll on summer.
Also Hurricane season was officially started last Monday as well, so we are rolling now, will give you any updates as they happen, but all is pleasant at the moment.

Not sure if this is going to work, but here goes!!!
i have copied and pasted a link http://www.kvue.com/video/weather-index.html?nvid=316476 and if you can view this link you can click on a short video of our weather highs and lows of 2008. it is not long, about 4minutes, but very interesting when looked at from a British perspective.
let me know if this works, then I can tweak my knowledge and keep learning

Our cooler Fall weather

I have not been putting the weather on recently, but thought you might like to see the temperatures are cooling down, so for those of you who prefer the lower temperatures this would be a good time of year to visit, they should stay lower now until February when they will start increasing again.

Weather gadgets
I have noticed my current weather conditions gadget has stopped working, so I have placed it at the bottom of my side bar and put another weather gadget in so you can at least look at our weather, but you need to scroll through the cities and put in Austin TX, yourself, as soon as I see the other one is back I will replace at the top for you. Allan has manged to correct the yearly weather over view so you can see all the year now, he reconfigured my page so it was wider- he is so clever!! my man.

Rain at last

Well it rained. No it really rained, we had 1.03" yesterday, and everyone was rejoicing, it made headline news and although they definitely do not know how to deal with rain, our lovely locals were over the moon. When I still cycled the children to school, it was commented on. There were only 6 bikes yesterday ( there is 851 pupils at the school), so you can imagine how many cars there were.
Walking was not an option in the rain apparently, really interesting to see, everyone was excited about the rain, but nobody wanted to venture into it. The temperature was still in the 70's and the rain was warm. I have a huge pile of sodden clothes to testify that jumping in puddles and bouncing on trampolines is still a child favourite past time when it rains, and slides are a must, especially if you can come off the end with a war cry as well.

Monday 6th October's weather and extra details!

I have included today extra information on the lake levels, they keep our lakes filled up from the lakes higher up the Colorado River, their is a dam system in place to control the flow. A map of the States and the weather expected for today, the weather information on the back of the Austin Statesman is really interesting and they give us so much more information than I was use to seeing in UK, it could be of course because the range of weather is much more varied, but to a Brit like me it is fasinating.

The weekend weather

It has been another dry weekend, although they are forecasting rain for today, with glee I might add, we are low on water in the lakes and everyone gets excited when rain is forecast and disappointed when it does not arrive.

Tuesdays weather

Here is the weather for yesterday, just want to keep you up to date with how hot we are. Ben put on a light fleece today to go to school, as he had been told it was cold now in the mornings. I did suggest he might not need it, but once he went outside, he came straight in and took it off, declaring" it is not cold out there". They are softies these Texans. We are still in shorts and T-shirts, and AirCon is still needed during the day. We do have a fire placew and heating in the house, but we are not expecting to need it.
