Ben's school trip to Austin zoo

Yesterday, may 11th I helped the first grade teacher, Mrs Higgins with Ben's class on a field trip to Austin Zoo, it was fun and quiet a few parents came, so it was not difficult to enjoy it.
The day was very warm, with temperatures in the 80f, and humid which makes it more challenging when you have a slight cold like me, hey ho.

The Zoo was not large and not at all fancy, but it held the childrens interest for the day, we also went on a train ride, which was rather strange , as it took us past no animals at all and had cut out Aliens and space ships..which really did the zoo no favours in my mind. I think at Christmas it is lit, as there were strings of lights everywhere, but it just look very tired and sad on that train ride...not sure i will be rushing to take visitors there, although I would take Alex so he can see the animals, as he will not be going there on a school field trip..tomorrow I am going with Alex class to the Texas state cemetery..photo's and thoughts to follow soon on that school trip.

Alex's first school trip

On November 3rd Alex had his first school trip which was to a butterfly farm, called wild Connections. I can tell you it was 14 miles away as I had to cycle there to join the field trip as the car was in the garage!!! All helps towards the marathon training- positive thinking is always a good thing.

They went in the yellow school buses, and all the second grade classes went( six in total). It was a beautiful day weather wise and lots of butterflies were out. The children all enjoyed the butterfly house, the nature trail and education centre where they saw a film and learnt a lot more about butterflies than already covered in the subject at school. Of course there was the obligatory shop at the end, where Alex bought himself a poster on venomous snakes of Texas- ready for you to study when you come out and visit. You can never be too careful.

Ben's first field trip

Ben went to Blondies Pumpkin patch yesterday and I was a helper, which was lots of fun. He went on the yellow school buses and all helpers followed in cars, it was a trip for all of the Kindergarten classes. Ben and Alex have both done there school bus training, so this was the first trip since the training. Ben was very excited about going and had to take a 'sack lunch' to school as well. The trip was not very long, but they learnt about a whole variety of pumpkins and gourds, how the dried ones can be used as vessels for storing water, washing yourself, spoons and lots of recipes, i just wish it was recorded as I can not remember them all today. there were no real mishaps on the trip and a good time was had by all.
